Task 1 - Free writing + Google Docs

Why are we doing this?

This exercise is to give you practice using Google Docs. We will be using this on-line program to facilitate our theme revision process. It is very much like Microsoft Word and is available anywhere you have access to the internet, eliminating the need for paper, emails or flash drives. Eventually, your theme drafts will be submitted and revisions and comments will be made through Google Docs. Today you will practice using ‘tools’ we will need later.

Directions for Task 1

• Free write a paragraph of your choice. It can be about anything: what’s on your mind, your opinion on a current event or school policy, a description of your pet or favorite song. The topic is completely up to you. It should be about 6 lines.
• Change the text to include three different colors.
• INSERT 3 ‘comments’ in 3 different colors.
• Save it, share it with cpronko@wsdweb.org and one other classmate.

Task 2 – Wiki posts

Why are we doing this?

This exercise is to give you practice using discussion boards for academic classes. From Virtual High School Students, to MBA candidates at Wharton Business School, Students, this type of format is very widely used in academic institutions today. You should be proficient at using this system. Proficiency includes using the appropirate style and tone for school.
In addition, it will give you an opportunity to express your opinion about TFA.

Directions for task 2

• Go to the wiki for chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 or “extra information”.
• Hit the tab at the top that says DISCUSSION. Now click on the purple word “PROMPT”
• Read the question/writing prompt that the wiki creator posted.
• Write a response in a minimum of 6 lines.
• REREAD what you wrote, checking to make sure that your spelling, grammar and meaning are all what you want to display to your honor’s English class.
• When you feel your post is ready, click POST in the lower right-hand corner.
• Repeat the whole procedure for another chapter.
• When you have finished two complete entries, you should go back and read what other students have posted.
